Welcome…
Hi, folks; Daniel here ~;-)
We all love good food, but bread is of universal importance. Biblical, even.
In the Lord’s Prayer, the first petition is for daily bread. No one can worship God or love his neighbor on an empty stomach.
Woodrow Wilson
That reference is in regard to feeding the spirit, but still… nothing ruins a good appetite quicker than thoughts of another’s hunger (which this Web site hopes to help fight, too).
Bread.Guide is among cowcreekgeek‘s growing list of baking-related internet domains, along with bread.cafe, bakery.social, et.al. OldMill.Co was among the first, on behalf of Old Mill Bakery, LLC. (Old Mill is on Facebook, too.)
We’ve too many loaves in our ovens…
Imagine a Web site dedicated to everything related to bread (e.g. cheeses, sauces, wines) and, of course, the bread itself… the simple joys of sharing it with others. That’s what we’re gonna build here (we look ‘forwwward‘ to it).
Most remember their own mother as the best cook, but with our mom? Everybody does: For years, she cooked and baked for hundreds, and truly loved doin’ it.
Dad made the best scones and coffee cakes (but almost always burned toast). My brothers each had their own specialties, but our youngest brother cooks better than any chef I’ve ever met; he’s always striving to further perfect any recipe, and has a amazing gift for perfectly balancing flavors.
He and his wife do some serious baking as well, but Lynn… she baked what was possibly the best chocolate cake ever made, with her unbelievably delicious chocolate cream icing (surpassing even Mom’s, even in Mom’s own opinion).
Now, as for me? Even my coffee is hit or miss, but I did develop my ability to manipulate every aspect of breads: I’d bought a first edition of Fannie Farmer’s Cookbook, which explained the true science behind the art of bread making. I could tear or cut into any loaf, and know what to change and/or adjust, so as to acheive the desired result(s).
And, over time, I just sorta… forgot.
Our family’s experiences, although different, are not unique; everybody has memories to share, and my own have proven (to me, at least) that just about anyone can master bread making, given the right information and proper equipment, if they invest the time.
And, time is something we’re short on here, soOo… it’s gonna be a little while.
